Hi, my name is saysah,

sometimes, Yas :-)

I am a person who is trying to be in right relationship with my body, the waterways, the land and more-than-human world. I love ravines and rivers.

I am based in tkaronto which is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, Wendake-Nionwentsïo, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Tkaronto is Treaty 13 territory and is land of Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island since time immemorial. I am, because of the communities I belong to.

I try to centre reflection, care, and emergence in the embodiment of my practice.

My practice incorporates the following intersections:

  • movement, dance, performance

  • mixed media, collage, stop-motion, paper mache scuptures

  • soundscapes, mutlisensory-scapes

  • projection, video & sound design & editing

  • earthwork, waterways, clay

  • community arts, public art, collaborative & interactive exhibitons

I believe. I am divinely guided both as a learner and maker ꩜

Beyond that, I love Newman: my freaky hairless

rat-cat :-)

I live, make and create on the stolen land of which many call Turtle Island. I am a multidisciplinary and multisensorial artist. I am tangled and (un)becoming.

I recognize the continuous and lived impact of colonization globally: especially the impact of settler-colonialism within the so-called americas. This system, was both deeply entrenched and invested in genocide, the trans-Atlantic slave trade, indentured labour and subjugation. It's legacies are alive and live on today.

I honour the ancestors and kin who have been impacted by the Euro- expansionist global project of anti-Blackness.

I am always in solidarity with land defenders and water protectors; Black and Indigenous freedom fighters - globally.

Sudan, Congo and Palestine will be free.

I believe we can get free!‍ ‍
